As promised last month here's some news about the plans to migrate your VPS across to Bytesized-hosting.com. This update will explain what kind of consequences this will have for you and your account.
There are two scenario's that can unfold.
1. You want to keep everything the way it is now.
If you choose this option the only thing that will change is that you will be invoiced by Bytesized instead of Fastsh.it and that your VPS might be moved to a different server. You will need to continue logging tickets/contacting staff to have reboots and re-images done, and future OS upgrades and options will be unmanaged.
2. You want to upgrade to a full Bytesized account.
You can opt in to get a full Bytesized account. Bytesized will offer you the same or a similar plan but on Bytesized's servers fully powered by the Bytesized stack and Solus. Please watch the following YouTube video to see a quick demo of what Bytesized offers over the VPS you use now. If you decide to upgrade you will have access to both the new and old account for 7 days so you can transfer any files you want to keep. You can find some answers to the most asked questions about upgrading here.
To help us plan the migrations please take one minute to fill in the following form, you would do us a huge favor.
In the coming days you will receive details to login to the Bytesized-hosting.com website. Once you receive those details you will be able to set your preference for either staying with the old stack or upgrading to a Bytesized VPS.
If you have any other questions please email to fastshit_migration@bytesized-hosting.com
As always you can discuss and ask questions in the Announcement forum as well.

We are excited to announce that Fastsh.it is integrating into bytesized-hosting.com. This announcement will explain what this means for you as an active Fastsh.it member. By October 1st we hope to have all our shared users up and running on Bytesized servers and control panel. After seeing this panel first hand I can attest that it will be a significant step forward for all customers. You will have the choice of updated torrent clients to use, a control panel and automated billing system and a number of other features that we at Fastsh.it didn't have the opportunity to refine or complete during your stay with us. This is a positive move for all of us and allows me to focus time on other aspects of my life, leaving you with more tools and support options, providing a better service in the end.
What does that mean for you?
1. Pricing is not going to change. You will be able to keep your current plan as long as you want to.
2. LU100S users will be upgraded to 110GB Lunchbox plan. LU200S users will keep the same plan at the same cost.
3. In the coming days you will receive your login details for Bytesized-hosting.com, you can browse around and check out the website.
4. Once you received your details for the website we will start transfering all your data from your Fastsh.it server to one of the Bytesized servers. After the move is done you will have access to Bytesized-hosting.com dashboard where you can see all the necessary credentials like: account details, renew date, account balance etc.
5. You will be able to prepay for your account so you don't have to worry about renewals. You can read about bytesized-hosting.com renewal structure here: http://wiki.bytesized-hosting.com/wiki/index.php/Renewal_Process.
6. You will get access to some cool new gadgets like Bytesized Pandora: Chrome plugin and Bytesized Android app and the ability to use OpenVPN to anonymize your internet surfing.
7. Bytesized support consists of ticketing system and IRC. You will get the fastest support that is humanly possible. Please don't use the Fastsh.it forums or email once the transfer is complete, you will be referred back to Bytesized support channels.
What do you have to do?
Nothing! You will get notified via e-mail when your new account (with your old data) is ready. You will get all the necessary info to login to the bytesized-hosting.com and start your bytesized experience :) In order to prepare for your bytesized journey it might help to browse through the wiki and/or watch the Getting Started video.
If you have any questions, contact us via email fastshit_migration@bytesized-hosting.com, bytesized hosting IRC or via our community forum at http://bysh.es/
I will assist in this transition every step of the way until all Fastsh.it customers are transferred to Bytesized and be available for questions from Bytesized or you. It's been a fun few years but now it's time to hop off the train and find a new path.
All the best,
PS: Phase one is to migrate all shared servers across. We will be transferring our VPS across during October with a final transition completion target of October 31st. More news on the VPS transition once the shared stage is complete.
Feel free to comment in the announcement forum though specific questions about your account should be directed to the email address above.
Over the next 2 weeks we will be performing rolling outages on many of our servers as we shuffle some users around and make better use of our resources. Much of this work will be done on weekends and posted in the forums prior to start however this is advanced warning that the outages will be happening soon.
Following these outages there will be additional rolling outages with brief downtime for each server as we move to a new subnet and all servers and hosts are setup with a new IP address. We will try to give as much advanced notice as possible so you can update any DNS entries you have to limit downtime. This new subnet will allow us to better monitor and use our new 1Gbps bandwidth allocations.
During this time we also hope to have our Shared servers upgraded with new features and clients, and release a new Ubuntu 11 VPS image with a more user friendly interface similar to our original Ubuntu 8 image.
More news will be shared as these outages take shape. If you have any questions please visit the announcement forum.
Here at Fastsh.it we aim to remain competitive and offer a quality unmetered 100Mbit service at a reasonable price. Due to the uncertainty in the US market and dollar, we have decided it's time to switch our base currency to the Euro. For years we have paid for our servers in Euros while accepting payments from customers in USD which has made bookkeeping more challenging and put the business at the mercy of PayPal exchange rates and market fluctuations.
By switching to the Euro we're hoping to make accounting more straight forward and easy to manage, and try to avoid as many poor exchange rate transfers from PayPal as possible. We have stuck with our USD pricing model as close as possible based on server cost and exchange rates. Below are the Euro rates for our plans:
| LU100S | = €13.50 |
| LU100 | = €16.25 |
| LU200S | = €18.75 |
| LU250 | = €25.50 |
| LU350 | = €32.00 |
| Dedicated | = €60.50 |
If your PayPal balance is in a currency other than the Euro, PayPal will handle the currency conversion for you. This should not affect the ability of US or other customers to make payments.
What does this mean for you?
Effective immediately, all new orders will be paid in Euro rather than USD. Our shopping cart has been updated and you will be prompted by PayPal for Euros rather than US dollars.
Existing customers will continue to pay USD until September 1st when we will roll out the USD for renewal payments. After this date USD will no longer be accepted for payments.
For those users on our original LU100 VPS plans (512MB RAM) you will be paying €16.25 also. During our recent round of server upgrades, all old plans were given 576MB RAM to match our current offering, so we will be asking you to pay the current rates for the plan you now use.
If you have any questions about these changes please post them here.
All of our VPS server upgrades have been completed. If you are still using Ubuntu 8 or 9 and wish to upgrade beyond 9.04, please follow this tutorial and post a reply in the forum when done.
As part of the upgrades, all grandfathered plans (512MB LU100) were replaced and everyone is now on the same 576MB RAM plan. From September 1 we will expect all users on the LU100 plan to pay the new amount. Expect an announcement on pricing later this weekend.
Our user control panel and payment system is nearly complete, further testing and tweaking is still being finalized but we're well on our way to wrapping up this project. Our shared plans should also have a complete revamp done in the coming weeks with new features and packages.
It's been a long time since we brought you any new information, so it's about time we got you back in the loop.
In the past week we have updated our Services Page and Order form. We have added menu options to select Ubuntu 10.10 or Debian 5 from our VPS images, and the old Ubuntu 8.10 VPS has been discontinued.
Debian 5 is a CLI install with no extras, giving the user total control of the environment. Ubuntu 10.10 has GNOME installed but no RDP software, again allowing the user freedom of choice. We have removed FreeNX from the Ubuntu image, allowing the user to select their own remote desktop solution.
We've also discontinued our OVH 650GB and 1TB plans due to low demand. We no longer carry any OVH products and rely solely on Server.lu for the time being. All plans remain unmetered 100mbit full duplex servers with no bandwidth throttling or per user caps.
All of our VPS servers are currently being upgraded with a new Xen installation and our shared servers will receive a major overhaul very soon. We're also nearly ready to launch our long anticipated control panel allowing users to reboot and re-image their VPS, check the status of their billing, pay monthly invoices, set PayPal subscriptions with many other features planned. Testing is currently underway to work out bugs and make final changes, with some features becoming available soon after all rolling updates have been performed on the Xen servers.
